Leptotrichia Buccalis: A Novel Cause of Chorioamnionitis
Intra-amniotic Leptotrichia buccalis has not been previously associated with adverse pregnancy outcome. We report a case of chorioamnionitis and pregnancy loss associated with this primarily oral commensal. We review Leptotrichia buccalis and other oral commensals that have been identified in cases of intraamniotic infection.
متن کاملLeptotrichia buccalis bacteremia in neutropenic children.
Two new cases of Leptotrichia buccalis bacteremia in seriously ill patients were described. The anaerobic, gram-negative microorganism L. buccalis was isolated from blood cultures of two children with severe leukopenia. Anaerobic organisms should be taken into account when a standard protective antibiotic chemotherapy is considered in the immunosuppressed host.
متن کاملUnusual cell wall ultrastructure of Leptotrichia buccalis.
Leptotrichia buccalis was examined by transmission electron microscopy. Its cell wall structure in generally compatible with that of gram-negative bacteria. However, the scale-like membranous folds associated with the external surface of the outer cell membrane appear to be sufficiently unusual to serve as a useful morphological criterion in the identification of L. baccalis cells.
متن کاملGram-Negative Bacterium
The cell envelope of a marine pseudomonad as seen in thin section by electron microscopy has the double-membrane structure typical of other gram-negative bacteria. Cells washed with a solution containing Na+, K+, and Mg++ at their concentrations in the growth medium, when suspended briefly in 0.5 M sucrose, lost 13% of their hexosamine in a form nonsedimentable by centrifugation at 73,000 x g. ...
متن کاملTyrosine sulfation in a Gram-negative bacterium.
Tyrosine sulfation, a well-characterized post-translation modification in eukaryotes, has not previously been reported in prokaryotes. Here, we demonstrate that the RaxST protein from the Gram-negative bacterium, Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae, is a tyrosine sulfotransferase. We used a newly developed sulfotransferase assay and ultraviolet photodissociation mass spectrometry to demonstrate that ...
